Hillsborough Township is located in Somerset County, New Jersey. Communities located within Hillsborough Township include Belle Mead, Blackwells Mills, Flagtown, Neshanic, and South Branch. With a total area of 54.8 square miles, it is the largest township in Somerset County.
Hillsborough Township was formally incorporated as one of New Jersey's original 104 townships on February 21, 1798. Portions of the township were later taken to form Millstone and Manville. The Township holds an important place in American history, as it served as the path General George Washington and his troops took from the Battle of Princeton to their winter encampment in Morristown.
Offering small town charm with access to everything big throughout the metropolitan area, Hillsborough Township is steadily growing in popularity. The town recently ranked among the Top 100 (#23) in the 2007 Best Places to Live edition of Money Magazine.
The Hillsborough Township School District consists of nine public schools.

U.S. Route 206 is the main road that passes through the Township. Main county roads that pass through include CR 514 (Amwell Road) and CR 533. I-287 is easily accessed from nearby Bridgewater and Franklin Townships and provides a main artery to points of interest throughout the state.
Hillsborough residents traveling into NYC can catch NJ Transit trains on the Raritan Valley Line or Gladstone Branch of the company’s passenger rail system. Convenient Park and Ride facilities are available and located at the crossroads of U.S. Route 206 and Amwell Road.
Sourlands Mountian Preserve offers three separate trails for hiking, with gorgeous Manhattan views rewarding visitors on clear days. As part of the great Northwest Skylands region and the Sourland Mountain ridge, this 2,600-acre preserve is also an ideal spot to bird watch.
Duke Farms, formerly known as Duke Gardens, is a 2,700 acre estate originally owned by tobacco and electric energy tycoon James "Buck" Duke and later by daughter Doris Duke. Today it serves as an environmental learning center, with nature programs, bicycle tours and self-guided tours available. It remains one of the largest, privately-owned preserved natural areas in New Jersey.
Ann van Middlesworth Park allows guests to enjoy fishing, winter ice skating, picnicking facilities, gardens, playgrounds, horseshoes, two lighted basketball courts, two lighted baseball fields, and a skate park. Visitors can also observe nature in the form of ducks, geese and deer among others.
Central Jersey Airport offers small airplane rides as well as flight lessons.
Highway 206/Amwell Road serves as the Central Business District of Hillsborough Township. There you’ll discover a variety of dining and shopping options designed to suit any taste (or taste buds.) A total of nearly 70 restaurants, pubs, cafes and catering halls each turn out terrific dishes, while unique boutique shops offer a host of distinctive products and services.
